New House Farm provides luxury bed and breakfast just
6 miles from the Cumbrian market town of Cockermouth,
famed as being the birth place of the Poet William
Wordsworth. You can visit his home Wordsworth House,
which has recently been transformed to give character
showing the period when he lived there.
Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame was also
born in Cockermouth and has a number of public houses
named after him.
Cockermouth is also home to the famous Jennings Brewery
which offers tours of its factory. There is also a
castle, museums, shops, parks and walks within the town.
For golf enthusiasts, Cockermouth Golf Club is only 6
miles, Keswick Golf Club is 16 miles and the stunning
Silloth Links course is 23 miles.
Head towards the West Coast of Cumbria for the Maryport
Aquarium, the beautiful coastal village of St. Bees
which is the start of the Coast to Coast walk and
Whitehaven with its regenerated harbour front.
Honister Slate Quarry is just 8 miles away beyond
Crummock Water and Buttermere and offers a unique
insight into the old mining lifestyle that existed in
these valleys.
If you are interested in visiting old houses then
Muncaster Castle, Dalmain and Hutton in the Forest are a
must.
The picturesque village of Lorton is only 2 miles away
to the North and offers pub food and excellent tennis
court facilities. Head South from New House Farm towards
Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere and discover
three of the prettiest lakes in the Lake District.
New House Farm is an ideal base for walking, canoeing,
bird watching, fishing and cycling on the Coast to Coast
and Reiver cycle routes.
Local Countryside
The area has some of the most stunning scenery and views in the country. Here you see the view looking towards Crummock Water, with High Stile and Red Pike towering in the distance.

A walk around Crummock Water or Buttermere Lake reveals some of the best valley views in the Lake District.
